LIBERTAD is a documentary about “Los Frikis”, a daring group of punk rockers who sparked a revolution within a revolution, going into exile without ever leaving home. As an act of rebellion against the oppressive Cuban government that was taking their freedom, Los Frikis decided to inject themselves with HIV, sentencing themselves to death but setting themselves free. Libertad will embody a non-traditional approach to documentary, capturing the raw, rebellious essence of Los Frikis through exclusive never seen before interviews with survivors, unprecedented access to concealed archival footage, and unique workshops inspired by the Theater of the Oppressed. LIBERTAD is not just a story of rebellion; it's a love story—about the love of life, the love for freedom, and the love for each other.
