TanG Yi

Born and raised in China and fluent in English, writer-director Tang Yi first entered the spotlight when she landed a recording deal in Hong Kong as a singer-songwriter after college. Her songs went viral -- so viral that they were banned by censors in China for being too risqué. She then scored a filmmaking scholarship to NYU Tisch, where she graduated in 2021. Yi's short film, ALL THE CROWS IN THE WORLD, won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2021 and the Grand Jury Prize at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival, among dozens of other awards.  Yi strives to tell unfiltered stories about women, underrepresented groups, and social issues through a highly subversive and darkly comedic lens.
